Montessori Life at Wetherill

At the Wetherill School, while implementing the core values of Montessori, children will engage in a variety of learning experiences centered around independence, exploration, curiosity and respect.

  • We offer a creative approach to Early Childhood Education, incorporating the findings of current research and best practices in Montessori education, early learning, and child development.

  • Children will learn in a prepared environment.

  • Our classrooms are composed of mixed ages with our youngest learners at 2.7 up to our 5 year olds. The younger children learn from the older ones while the older children reinforce their knowledge by helping others.

  • Buzz words like work, not play are used. They are engaged in real, purposeful tasks. Each material they work with will teach concepts in math, language and practical life.

  • Social and Emotional Development is supported when children learn to take responsibility for themselves and their community. At Wetherill we practice conflict resolution and engaging in lessons to help develop peaceful problem-solving, empathy and patience.

  • In Practical Life they are building those fine motor skills, independence and focus with activities like pouring, sweeping, caring for plants and cleaning surfaces, to name a few.
