OUR PROGRAMS

Morning Preschool

9 AM-12 PM • Monday-Friday

Morning preschool occurs in a mixed-age setting from 9:00-12:00 (M-F) for children ages 2 years 7 months through kindergarten age. Children will explore, discover and learn to collaborate with classmates and take ownership of their education. Our mixed age grouping provides children with the skills to support the needs of others while building independence and becoming inspired by the work of their peers. Our older students learn to teach and practice leadership and cultivate an environment of nurturing. Nurturing and supportive environments greatly improve children’s education and development.

The morning program also offers specials such as Spanish; where children are taught by a native speaker using games, songs and comprehension. In music and movement children have an opportunity to sing, create, explore and move our bodies in an outdoor setting through musical activities and group interactions.

Afternoon 3’s

9 AM-3PM • Monday-Friday

For children who have turned 3 by September 1st. They will spend their morning reinforcing their learning and in the afternoon will have opportunities to work on developmental skills in areas of physical, social, emotional and cognitive growth. With the support of the early Pre-K Heggerty program, students will participate in daily lessons where they begin to learn to play with language and hear the sounds in spoken words. This can be done through nursery rhymes and/or sentence structure. To nurture the balance of a longer day, the children explore opportunities to listen to stories, music, meditation and yoga.

Riverbend Environmental Education Center visits once a week with their Riverbend on the Road education program. Children will explore Nature's 5 Senses, Plants & Pollinators, How Your Garden Grows, Insect Exploration, Turtles, Animal Investigators, Habitats and more.

Kindergarten Readiness

9 AM-3PM • Monday-Friday

For children who have turned 4 and/or 5 years of age by September 1st. Children will explore additional literacy and numeracy activities as well as multicultural/literature based art and pre-writing skills. With the use of Heggerty and Fundations lessons, children will learn about reading and writing. Heggerty is a phonemic awareness program that helps students understand how sounds work in words. Fundations is a phonics program that focuses on spelling, handwriting and other areas of reading and writing. Both of these programs are used in the Lower Merion School District.

Children develop skills at different rates and kindergarten readiness supports each learner and offers individual support where needed. There will be opportunities to practice and grow a skill that your child may have demonstrated developmental readiness for early on. The smaller classroom environments allow for more individualized attention and meeting the needs of each child at their own level while preparing them for Kindergarten. This final year at Wetherill presents children with all the skills and knowledge they have gained, opportunities to grow and prepares them for their future.

Kindergarten Readiness also has a visit from Riverbend once a week.
